Thanks everyone for the comments. They are much appreciated. This photo uses a couple techniques, back lighting - this case the sun, shallow depth of field to create the bokeh and blurred background, and severe under exposure of the foreground leaves to create the silhouette. Convert to B&W, and then up the contrast a bit.
I think the composition you chose makes the photo.
